Rolling out smart metering across the UK

As part of the Government’s commitment to reduce carbon emissions and help consumers lower household energy bills, smart electricity and gas meters are being rolled out to all homes across the UK by 2020.

Arqiva have been appointed as the responsible organisation for delivering the technology behind this for the North of the UK.

This is a complex, multi-stakeholder programme which requires a significant level of test assurance across the new smart communications network and equipment (including utility meters, smart communications hubs and in-home displays).

Responsible for:

Leading the technical team

Technical team lead and escalation point for a customer-facing team of 10 test engineers and support staff.

Ensuring successful user/equipment integration

Working with energy suppliers and distributors to integrate their testing into the smart metering solution.

Providing operational confidence to stakeholders

Regular communication with senior project personnel including test managers, project managers and third-party suppliers.

Managing the test lab and equipment

Including smart electricity and gas meters, communication hubs, pre-payment devices, in-home displays and supplementary lab equipment.
